Common questions
McLennan County bail bonds: nights, weekends and bond reductions
Can you get a bail bond in McLennan County on a weekend or at night?
Several licensed McLennan County agencies list 24-hour phone service. Chapman’s Bail Bonds states it is on call 24/7/365 at 254-855-9885. Its website says paperwork is filed within 30 to 45 minutes of the agreement being signed, not simply once bail is set. Jail processing and release are separate, and this is not a guaranteed release time.
Read the Waco bail bond processing-time guide for questions to ask before arranging a bond.
How do McLennan County bail bonds work?
After booking and magistration, a licensed bondsman signs a surety bond for the full bail amount, and you pay a non-refundable premium. The bondsman files the bond with the jail bond clerk, where the court date must be written as “Instanter” (posting bail rules), and the jail then processes the release. The defendant must attend every court setting.
Who can write bail bonds in McLennan County?
Only agencies licensed by the McLennan County Bail Bond Board, plus attorneys authorized to write bonds. The county publishes the active roster. Every licensed agency is listed in this directory.
Can a bail amount be reduced in Waco?
Yes. A defense attorney can ask the court handling the case to lower bail. The judge applies the same Texas factors used to set it (Art. 17.15), including the defendant’s ability to pay. If the state is not ready for trial in time, Art. 17.151 requires release on personal bond or reduced bail after 90 days for a felony and shorter periods for misdemeanors.
