What a personal bond is
A personal bond (also called a personal recognizance or PR bond) lets a defendant be released on a written promise to appear, without paying the full bail or a bondsman’s premium. Whether one is granted is up to the magistrate or judge under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 17. Some charges and criminal histories make a defendant ineligible under Texas law.
McLennan County personal bond conditions
According to the county’s Pretrial Services Office page, people released on a personal bond in McLennan County must:
- Pay a one-time $20 personal bond fee.
- Make a weekly call-in report until the case is disposed.
- Pay only by cash or money order payable to McLennan County. Personal checks are not accepted. Payment can be made in person at the Personal Bond Office or by mail.
